Tyres ....

Hi there,
New to all this so apologies if I have missed any previous threads.
I have a stock Specialized Hardrock which I use on light trails, but more recently more and more on road for commuting
Just wondered are there any tires out there that would be more suitablt for this than the tyres on it. I wouldn't mind even if I had to change the tyres back if I wanted to go trail riding again, just need something easier for on road/hard surfaces.
Thanks for any help you may be.

Hi Mate and welcome!
Have a look through the search function as there are tons of tyre Q&A's.
Sorry, not got anything more useful than that to say!0 -
The trouble with having an open mind, of course, is that people will insist on coming along and trying to put things in it.

Use Schwalbe Hurricane myself. Good intermediates for my road commute and dry trail riding during the summer.0

Conti Traffic 09 - does road (wet and dry - sh!t to a blanket on both) and summer trails (can handle a surprising amount of winter weather too). Best value indestructible tyre (you'll have to try hard to puncture it with right pressure in them, hard even if you don't) that I've used so far (and I've become a tyre junkie). 1.9s come out a nice all round balance, if a little heavy at 780g (not the quoted figure) but for what they do for the price, more than worth it.

FYI: The Hurricane's also have a Kevlar belt so will be virtually impervious to puncture.0

..also 860g :shock:0

That just adds to the training0

Kenda Small Block 8, good off road and on, get them in a 1.95 and bob is your mother's brother.0

Another vote for the Conti Traffic 2009's.
I use these and really think they are a great go anywhere general use tyre - great rolling on tarmac with enough knobbly tread to cope with off-road. Puncture resistance for me has been superb.
They are on the heavy side and I am not suggesting they are a great trail tyre but for those of us that ride our bikes on all surfaces and aren't hardcore off-roaders looking for peak performance I think they are hard to beat !0 -
I've pushed the Traffic 09s as far as they can go for a laugh and they can go quite far as it happens, they'll certainly hone your riding skills over terrain they're not strictly meant for but most of it's doable on them, they have wicked outside edge grip. Where they fall down is mud, proper mud, but you need a mud tyre for mud and not 'Traffics'.
It's a good experience and a laugh riding on tyres that aren't strictly suited to what you're doing, you'd be surprised how much you can do though.0 -
After getting two punctures in one week, I swapped out my Specialized Fast Trak LK tyres for the Crossroads Armadillo Elite. Great on roads and cycle paths, pretty good off-road too. Not cheap at around £35 each but this is a tyre that will last a long time and is extremely puncture resistant.0

ive used the spesh crossroads armadillos too, very good, long lasting, very grippy and fast rolling.0
