I am looking to buy a pair of sunnies, I ride mostly in forests and single track.

I have £50 to spend, have been looking at the Specialized El Toro's?

Can anyone recommend any others, which are the best for the money?

Thanks

I spent £30 on some Endura Shark glasses. Come with 3 decent lenses and a case.

They do fine, might not be scratch proof but they serve the purpose. I don't want to spend huge amounts on sunnies incase a I break/lose them.

I got some Polaris Slammers last year I think they were £25. Three lenses and a case, I don't notice I'm wearing them until I take them off.

I keep looking at Oakley Radars but I can't convince myself they are worth £100+. They look great in the pictures and in the glass case at the lbs but not so hot in real life.

Note that those are the Road formula lenses....which apparently don't lighten up as much as the mountain formula ones.....

Yea i was just reading that and you are indeed correct. They seem fine for off road conditions. I would imagine when it gets dark however they are going to cease being effective.

Yeah, they seem like a great deal! £100 reduced to £50!

I don't ride at night really, so I think these will be fine! Although, riding in forests etc, do you think they will be rugged enough? Not sure if it really matters?

you want enough for all of the drinks that you will need for the average party, I find that 4 is usually ideal like this one:

I use some cheapo £15 Enduro glasses in yellow - I look like a twat but they keep sh*t out of my eyes and improve vision in woods, dont do anything about sunlight or glare but that rarely causes me issues.

The Maddison D'Arcs are good too - 3 lens options and bad looking frames for 20 odd notes.

I havent broken a pair of ride glasses yet but I know if I spent a few quid on some I would!

  • +1 for d'arcs cant fault them and the lenses are really easy to change

Looks like the kind of thing I'm after. No point spending £100s on big brand names that will get smashed up when you plant your face in the dirt (having done that with £200 prescription glasses myself, smashing up glasses and the frame smashing up my face!).

From the description they sound tough enough on the lenses and looks like the frames are minimal enough not to cause much of a dent in the face.

Main thing for me is keeping the flies out. Wearing contacts I always seem to get those tiny flies stuck in there, even wearing regular sunglasses, and they get stuck under the eyelid and puss forms... yuck!

    Thanks owen908.

Mine were delivered yesterday! Really pleased with them, cant wait to get out and try them now!!

Really good deal, 1/2 price, so do not feel like I have spent a fortune???

I will wait and see whether I break them, if so then it's of to Matalan and the £5 specials![/quote]
