Sora shifter keeps getting stuck?

Hi,

Ive got Sora STI shifters on my bike and the right hand one works ok, but the left keeps sticking whilst out on a ride.

When I first get on the bike it works fine, I can shift onto the big ring, but as the ride gets further it just stops working. If I push right to go onto the big ring its really stiff and I can almost force it to click once to go onto the big ring (double ring) but the mech doesnt move at all. When I get home its still stuck so I go in have a shower etc and come back out a couple of hours later to have a look its working again!?

At one point I was able to loosen off the cable from the mech and it was still stiff but I could move the mech with my fingers, so im thinking there is something wrong with the lever, but why it starts working if I leave it a few hours ive no idea?

Also, the last time I went out the brake didnt work either and its the first time this has happened, almost like its getting worse, then it works again??

Ive washed the bike a few times and water could have gotten in behind the lever, do you think this could have caused an issue, saying that the right lever works fine and its had the same treatment.

Is it possible to take the lever apart and give it a clean and oil to make sure its all ok?

My mate had the same sort of thing but with his rh Sora shifter. He stripped it down as much as he could and found that a small spring inside had snapped, took it into Mammoth cycles where he bought the complete bike from and they got it repaired under warrenty.

be careful taking a sora shifter apart. I did that recently and the little spring pops out and is very fiddly to get back in. I nearly gave up and bought new shifters but after a couple of hours I have fixed it. Would recommend getting someone else to do it!
