Anthem x and tyres

What's the typical maximum you can run on this frame, i've read it's 2.3 but id rather make sure first.

On another note what are nobby nic like, im looking for a better all rounder but the choices are vast and tyres are fickle things, just because one gets good reviews doesn't necessarily mean you'll get on with it.

My current all rounders are intense 2 xc c3 and fire xc pro's, im after something that corners and rolls very well and doesn't wear fast, the anthem is a very flickable bike but i find most tyres can't keep up with it. :D
The trouble with having an open mind, of course, is that people will insist on coming along and trying to put things in it.

I doubt you could go bigger than 2.3 , but it depends on the tyre, some inflate bigger than their size and some smaller, my previous racing ralphs inflated slightly bigger than the 2.1" and didnt leave much room for any errors (wheels flexing in corners or buckles), personally wouldnt go bigger than 2.1..

Have you thought of going tubeless to save more weight???

Well that but the main issue is punchures, we have gorse and lots of it, i wouldn't mind using conti tyres but they always hate thorns, going tubeless will solve this and i get a nice speed increase to boot. ;)

I'm using a 2.1 Maxxis crossmark exception series on the back, i find it rolls really well and has good grip i have one of these on my anthem and on my hardtail.
On the front of my anthem i have a 2.25 Ardent and its grippy as hell and predictable, once the advantage i have on the front of my hardtail gives up i'll be putting a ardent on the front of that aswell.
As for where i use them, i'm up Afan at least twice a week and sometimes on the road to get to some of the more local trails. So they see a bit of everything.

So those two combined are a great combo then, i have to admit im liking the look of the ardent, it looks grippy and fast and quite a light tyre for it's size hmm,

Have you tried it with Racing Ralphs yet? They're rapid and very grippy too if you get the pressures right. They're on all the other models up to the X0, so Giant must rate them...

Yeah, i think i'll give them a try 2.25 up front and 2.1 back, i always prefer the back end giving way first anyway. ;)

Could try the old Nic/Ralph combo...

To be honest I'm usually too lazy to experiment much with tyres. The Ralphs have been great so far, I had to drop a lot of pressure out of them last week when we had a a bit of rain, but after that they were hanging onto the roots pretty well. It'll be interesting to see how many inner tubes I get through next time I'm in Afan

Lol well i was thinking of running nics front and back, we have very varied conditions so the ralph might get a bit lost when the going gets tougher plus the nic's are meant to last a lot longer anyway.

    How have yours been wearing?

Too early to say yet, the Anthem's only done about 30 miles. I would say it's very rare the Ralph at the back has let me down, even in serious mud they do pretty well, probably because they shed it so easily. Up front they can get a bit loose if it's wet, but so could the Nics. They were superb at the weekend in Woodbury where the pebble beds are a nightmare for most tyres.
