Life insurance for mountain bikers

Not wanting to pre-empt my ultimate demise or anything, but my biking seems to get more extreme the more I get out and ride. So if one day I do go head over handlebars and find myself manualling on a cloud - who is going to look after my family? Does anyone out there have life insurance to cover our extreme sport and if so can you recommend a good/cheap company?

is it life cover specifically you wanted?

if it is life cover as opposed to income cover then a family income benefit policy may suit. they pay out an annual lump sum over a policy term of 25 years.

Lets say the family income shortfall if you die is £30,000 and your family are dependent for 25 years. You die after 10 years of the policy being set up the policy would pay out the £30k every 15 years until the policy ceases.

most insurers would ask for a hazardous pursuits questionnaire to be completed which would detail how much you mountain bike etc, where you do it. Some insurers would accept you on standard term or others would simply increase the premium as the risk of you dying through Mbiking increases.

The providers to steer clear of are the ones who will offer you the policy but exclude a pay out if death occurs through mountain biking.

a policy like this would make sense regardless of whether you mountain bike or not. You also need to check with your existing life cover policies that pay off your mortgage etc, that it is acceptable for you to mountain bike and it is covered.

Nice set up though. You have to give them credit for that.

I don't believe that MTBing is an extreme sport - you hear of more road bike deaths. Check with your insurer but there's no need for a specialist policy.

It's a 9 year old thread resurrected. The OP has probably died of old age by now.

Especially as that was the OP's one and only post, and they haven't logged in since.
