Hi all I am getting some repairs made to my bike and was thinking I might get it repainted but don't have much of a clue about how to go about doing it. would this be something a lbs could do for me or do i just go to a paint shop and ask them to do it? Obviously I know the bike would need to be broken down so it was just the frame but I just not sure about after that. also what sort of price would I be looking at?

Any help would be great thanks.

There's quite a few places that do bike respraying, one in particular has a very good reputation called Atlantic Boulevard. (They can even do some other branding so you could magically upgrade to a Colnago EPS for example)

Best bet would be to go to a paint shop that is experienced in bike painting. LBS would amost certainly be outsourcing the job anyway. I got a steel bike powdercoated at Armourtex in Hackney, London for £60; they are friendly and offer a good service. You don't say where you live but there's bound to be somewhere quite close. It'll be cheaper outside London.

Powdercoating is very durable but it does look a bit plasticy. If you want something a bit more elegant then I think that Argos (Bristol) and Mercian (Derby) are the places that get recommended most often.

Mario Vaz in SE London is probably your nearest - reasonably priced too. I'd recommend Atlantic Boulevard if you want top quality.
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..
