polishing new bike

dont know if this has been covered.
a mate of mine rides time trail(road), and he suggested polishing my new bike with car polish or furniture polish so that it makes it easier to clean. has anyone done this?

Watch out for the WD40 getting anywhere near your suspension seals though as it can damage the rubber.... be sure if you do use WD40 then as quoted spray on a rag first!
I've heard of furniture polish being the way to go tbh - gonna have a blast with that this evening i thinks!
I suppose it's possible, the usual "test on a small area" applies with pretty much any polish or product, but it's been fine on every painted or coated surface I've ever used it on.
Bike spray also does the job.

Wax adds a protective layer, which would probably be more effective at helping keep bike looking new.
This is complicated slightly by car cleaning products often putting wax in polish
