Another hour or so until the first rider off the ramp:

Tom Boonen apparently has diarrhea. Let's hope it ain't less than fresh eggs to blame

    Aaaaaaaaaaand we're off!

Where are Duffield and Roche? Ousted in favour of Backstedt and Smith. Not that I'm complaining.

Armstrong off at 3.17 British time.

Eurosport's Lance love fest off, France 2 on.
Loved Big Mag's and Bri Smith trashing Pharmstrong's ridiculous odds.
Might dark out there. Conta already getting the pointy end of the Nike Bikey shaft.

It looks just now like Charmswriong has too. He's just done a Paula Radcliff at the start, no shiit.

Have had a punt on Levi today.
Thinking he'll be a slave for the rest of the tour, so one big blast today.

Lancey-pansey off early.... pity I was hoping he would go later and fall off when the rain comes...

Any time cheeks for Bom Toonen.

Apparently he's had an igher dea, tilt the saddle slightly and try not to think of England.

Anyone wanting to follow the chance of rain can do here (although Monaco isnt that easy to find on there - i think its generally on the coast south-west of where the blue blobs appear)

Thunder and lightning is occurring over in north-west Italy at the moment.

Tidy little detail on armstrongs bike - front brake hidden inside the fork crown. Pity about the manky paint job.

    Boonen cracks under pressure.

Nice of the last poster to mention Toms Thunder, some trajectory he's got

Not uber impressed with Yawnstrong's split. 22" on Monfort isn't huge.
French coverage is shiite. All the way around, nobody off the start, nobody at the finish.
    Seems they've sold out completely.

Second half of the course looks very technical. Could be a lot of problems if it rains.

20'12" for LA. 30" faster than Monfort. Tony Martin now on the road... I think we'll be able to draw comparisons once we see his time. Leipheimer just started too.

Tony Martin beats Armstrong... they didn't stop the clock though... 7 seconds I reckon. Levi 3 seconds behind Martin at 7.5km.

Leipheimer looks like a bloody T-Rex on the bike

I love the way everyone was talking about LA's time and then when Martin went 1'st they were all confused.

Doubt he'll top 10 at this rate.
Fckin' Quintana … that creep can roll, man.

Well it's not as if Martin is a time trial specialist or anything... At least Dan Lloyd knows what he's talking about.

He'd better get ready for domestique duties at this rate.

Is Leipheimer's position the most ugly ever? It works for him though, obviously.

Trivia buffs - what is LA's worst ever position in an opening TT at the TDF?

    I mean LA 2.0 not LA 1.0.

Correct answer: 7th in 2003. Cyclingnews' new site made that harder to find than it should have been

Fiona did warn you all about that Columbia kit

Martin's time makes me think Cancellera will do it.
