Just been having a look on the commuting bikes thread. Can I ask what sort of saddle you have and where you got it? It looks like it would match well with my pinked-up Giant!

    Thanks!

Hmm looks like it might be that one, but in hot pink rather than baby pink.

    Hi Pinkpedal,

Sorry - I never saw this thread! I have a Planet X Superlight Team and it's very comfy, maybe a tiny bit slippery in lycra. It's a slightly darker/hotter pink than in the photo on that webpage.

It's modelled on (or ripped off from) the Fizik that Il Principe links to, but it's under half the price. There's no logo apart from a tiny rainbow decal on the back of the saddle, which is half worn off on mine.

It is also possible that I might be selling it - I am wondering whether to buy this fella:

I'd love (ASAP) any opinions anyone might have on whether it's decent enough for me to shell out £45 on it...

You got me to buy the pink Ultremos in exactly the same way :) Ideally I was hoping for an opinion or two on ideally that saddle, but the marque in general if possible. Also, I wonder if it's light enough pink - hard to tell in the photos...

Thanks for the PM and for finding my thread Biondino :D

I love both of those saddles. As a pink aficionado though the Selle might look a little bit salmony to me. It's so hard to tell from photos!

I do like the Fizik one but unfortunately the white wouldn't match the rest of my bike. The Planet X looks amazing: is it awfully thin do you think for a 'lady behind'? Mind you I have gents' saddles on both bikes now and have no problems but the Planet X looks significantly narrower.

I say go for it! (disclaimer: this is coming from the girl who spent £25 on lizard skin bar tape purely for the colour  )

I love my Selle San Marcos. My old Rolls is in a box somewhere for a special bike, and both my bikes have SKNs which is the best saddle I have ever tried.

Saddles are very personal, but I have a soft spot for Selle San Marco.

Ah sod it, I'll get the Caymano - needs to be shipped in from that America though! Are you in a hurry, Pinkpedal, or would you be okay holding on for a couple of weeks, since if I do go for the Caymano then I'll have a pink Planet X going spare, only 300 miles or so...

Not in a hurry at all, so no worries :D

I did notice last night that while it's relatively new and still in good nick, it does look used - so if you like things pristine it's probably better to get a new one.

My new pinkie has been dispatched, so if the US Postal service does a good job I'll bring it along on Saturday...

Pinkpedal, I was asking on the Fixie thread, but can I interest you in one pink brake caliper? I only need one, you see, and it'd be a shame to let the other sit on a shelf (and I'd quite like to pay only £50 instead of £100 :) )

  • Biondino, surely you could try your hand at home anodizing (assuming the brake parts are Aluminium).

It's not hard, you just need 12 V supply and some Sulphuric acid :D

UE how can I make my own carbon fibre at home?

I fully expect a serious answer to this.

Buy a sh!tload of pencil leads and superglue them together in bunches into long 'tubes' and piece together into whatever geometry you like.

    Hey,

I have to admit I love shiney new things so might see if you like the Selle one and then shamelessly copy you!

Could be interested in a pink brake. A couple of retardo-questions though: is it suitable for a road bike and will it affect the quality of my braking? Can I put it on either front or back? Maybe I should come to the Morpeth drinks one week and you could bring it for a looky? I'll be in RP tomorrow morning but planning to head earlier than the drinks to avoid traffic....

Well, the thing is I don't think I'll buy it if I have to buy both :) Though I might - I reckon I could easily sell the second one. We'll see.

Obviously on a road bike you have two brakes so having one a silly colour might not be ideal!

However, as I understand it it absolutely would work on a road bike, front or back. It's a high quality brake which should deliver excellent braking performance, so unless you're running top-end brakes already it wouldn't likely be a step down. Here's the review of the branded version of the same brakes.

And a serious answer is just what you should expect:

Here's a link to some CF tape, basically all you do is layer it with epoxy resin and you're done.

It's no more difficult than papier mache, it appears... (see Youtube video)

Anyone inspired to make their own bike parts? 8)

ITB already makes bike parts out of papier mache - who'd have thought it'd work for tyres!

Don't you need glue for papier mache...

ITB, is that where you are going wrong?

Biondino, I think you may have out-pinked my bike  !

If I can figure out how to load a picture tonight I will. I have pink Stelvio tyres instead of Ultremos.

    Looks brilliant!

Biondino - are those Knog Frog lights good? I've been thinking about upgrading at getting some for a while for "look at me; please don't hit me", but not sure about what style to get.

I've got a serious headlight for the country lanes, so this would be a secondary/summer light.

Thanks Pinkpedal! I like it - I wish wish wish all the pinks were the same shade but hey. If you need help uploading a pic let me know - happy to talk you through it or host it if that's easier.

RTA - the Knog Frogs are fine as secondary/city lights (technically I think they're not - they say they should only be used as a supplementary light on the packaging) - bright enough and also, it seems, don't go pop in torrential rain! I don't yet know how long they'll last as they're pretty new.

You're not wrong, but tbh I'm actually coming to quite like the toe clips, especially the freedom of not having to wear cycling shoes. So I think I'll keep them for now. If I don't I'll just stick on my spare pair of eggbeaters - which aren't pink (I think the spring is red - clashing, oh no!).

could you not get some pink flats, then fit those foot straps which are just one rubber strap for each pedal?
