Road Bike for Big Lad

I'm looking for a relatively decent road bike to generally lose some weight and eventually do some racing (nothing overly serious mind you) once weight and fitness reaches a suitable level.

Trouble is I'm 6' 3" & 16 stone! Does anybody with a similar physique have any recommendations for me, my budget is between £1,000-£1,500

Do any road bikes carry weight restrictions like some MTB's do?

You're not so big as to need a bike made from scaffold poles or the like.

I was 6'5" and 15 stone when I started riding a year ago (I'm now 5'8" and 13.5 stone).

I would say just about any bike would be fine. It's wheels that will make the most difference for you. I'd recommend some 32 spoke 3x handbuilts (that's what I ride anyway and have had no probs even with serious pothole interaction).

Having been 20 stone (now 15 st 2lb) and having been through a few bikes i would reccomend one of the Scott CR1 range. My oldest one has taken 5 years of abuse (minus the factory built wheels) and is still going strong.

I'm 6 foot 6, and about 19 1/2 stone, and my Bianchi 1885 has been faultless.

The Khamsin wheels in particular have been excellent; I had a pair of Shimano WH-500s fitted to my commuter bike, and I might as well have had an oversized pair of choccy Wagon Wheels fitted with all the broken spokes I had.
