Knee pads

I'm basically an XC rider - I ride around the natural trails of the Lakes. Anyway I'm off to Scotland on holiday - I'll be riding the Witches Trail & singletrack in Skye. I'll be doing some fairly long distance stuff.
I'm thinking of knee pads (especially after seeing the Witches Trail on You Tube). I know nothing about them - which are the most XC friendly ones?
Cheers.

Kyle Straits IMO. Not that I've tried them all but I've done a lot of riding in mine and I can almost forget they're there til I crash. Excellent protection, but very unobtrusive and comfy. A wee bit sweaty obviously but that does probably go without saying.
They're quite bulky, mind, as they have side protection too so they look a bit OTT, but they're comfier than most smaller pads so there's no reason to go smaller other than asthetics IMO.Uncompromising extremist0 -
661 Kyle Straits are a popular choice. I have the 661 Evos myself. Kinda expensive but offer enough protection for XC and you really do forget they're on...until you come off that is.0

+1 for Kyle Straits.
I wore mine on a 4 hour ride the other day in about 28 degree weather and while a bit sweaty, they were still very comfortable. Easy to pedal in and you hardly notice they're on after a while.Eyes on the prize.0 -
Yeah just got some Kyle Strait Patriots from here for really cheap - they are v comfy too

I tried on loads, including the Kyle Straits. Ended up getting Race Face Dig. They seemed to fit me better and I prefered the way the velcro fastening system is angled. The black with grey graphics looks a lot more subtle than the lairy yellow ones you see on CRC: http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Mode ... elID=394960

If you can, try some on at an LBS. Like with helmets comfort can be a big thing.0

another +1 for the Kyle Straits. But do make sure you try them on if poss. I went for them in a XL cos my leg measurements were bang on for that size according to the size chart. But once they had stretced in a bit they were miles to big so had to get a large. Luckily sold the XLs to my brother who is fatter than me and more prone to falling off.0

Yeah, that's true, I think it's easy to forget that not everyone's the same shape so there's no one perfect pad.Uncompromising extremist0
