Anyone with a Silk Road?

I would appreciate your comments as I am about to buy one and need the blessing from you guys.

I had always thought I would get a CF bike as my second and good bike but the appeal of Ti is real. Doesn't corrode, it is very durable and has got a nice and understated look to it. I also like the sound of a lifetime warranty on the frame. I know the stiffness on the BB area is not the same as a top end CF frame but then again I could have never afforded one of those and probably won't notice due to me being more like a Sunday Club run kind of person if you know what I mean.

Thanks in advance!

No experience myself, but I know someone who bought one recently (very experienced rider) and he reckons it is fantastic. I met the owner of Sabbath (Greg) in my LBS last week and he was saying that in three years of trading they have not had a single frame failure, though he touched wood as he said it!

Agreed - and it's not percieved as "drop dead gorgeous" like a black carbon racer, so the local thief hopefully won't go after a titanium bike at the cafe stop, instead he'll ride off with a Dolan Mythos :P

I for one absolutely love the understated look of Titanium.

Not a problem, just get some stiff wheels and a carbon cransket if you're that way inclined.

Sabbath are good, and so are Van Nicholas. They don't use "ridiculously thin" downtubes tubes like some other makes, meaning they still offer decent stiffness.

Look at the geometry of the frames. For Van Nicholas, the Chinook is in the middle of the "sensibly-priced" range (Euros-Chinook-Zephyr from bottom to top) yet it's got the most racy seat tube and seat stay angles. So what does that mean? MORE FUN :D

As for the Astraeus......don't ask me, I haven't got two grand to spend on a frame

Sabbath's range is decent. I like the look of the Monday's Child.

I think there's a road team sponsored by Sabbath too. It's good enough for them!

well, the deal on this Silk Road is very good so I think I am going to take it!!! Wife is almost there too :)

Thanks for the ideas of how to make it stiffer but somehow I don't think I am ever going to be Cavendish or Freire ... so probably won't need it.

Nice to hear your comments too!!!

Sabbath sponsor or supply bikes to several top UK riders.

The Sabbath Claytan pro team mostly use Mondays Childs, and Kieran Frend won the West Mids Champs on his a couple of weeks ago.

Dave Clarke was 5th behind Brad Wiggins in the Beaumount Trophy on his Silk Road Pro and ex Tour De France rider Adrian Timmis also rides a Silk Road Pro.

I have one of each and a couple of samples of what we'll have for next year...

Silk Road is generally a little more forgiving than the Pro or MC, and teh geometry is a little more upright. Basically we are aiming it squarely at the sportive enthusiast.

I have a silk road. Excellent bike. Plently stiff enough and comfort+++ Little heavier than equvalent carbon frame, not enough to really notice for most though

Brilliant - when money permits (and believe me its taken me 3 days of negotiation with the wife!) I would go for a £350 or so pair of wheels - for the moment being I think I can use my ksyrium equipes on this bike and move the aksiums to the Giant.
