Hi im 15, and i'm in the middle of my GCSE's, :? i'm also doing PE as one of them, and, one of my sports for PE is cycling (because cycling is awesome 8) ) and i need to analyse my performance and write down foods i can eat, different training regeimes and fitness stuff and stuff about my bike, and maintenance and all that other stuff also i can write pretty much anything about bikes and stuff to do with cycling as a side thing, so if anyone has ANY info about ANYTHING i've just written about, i would be MOST grateful, just to help (maybe) my bike is an exxcel oxygen... don't know if that'll help you or how good-a bike it is but it's what i've got so as i say any info would be very welcome, many thanks! :D

Did PE for GCSE myself. They wouldnt let me do cycling as one of my sports, as they didnt know enough about it to evaluate my performance. However, I did other sports and got an A in it.
i need to analyse my performance

Basic pedalling technique is what you want to focus on here. Heels not too high, steady cadence (maybe around 80rpm (revs per minute)), back still, hips still, head not bobbing (just try and keep everything still except your legs). Try and talk about all these things.

If you want to go more advanced into technique, and go into the mountain biking side of it, then talk about one finger braking, putting your weight to the back of the bike for drops, spreading your weight out for certain bits, outside foot down, weight on it, when turning, etc. etc.

and write down foods i can eat, different training regeimes and fitness stuff and stuff about my bike, and maintenance

Pretty simple here. Cyclists love carbs, as cycling is a very calorie consuming activity. Pasta is perfect for an example of what is a good food for cycling. So is bananas, porridge, etc. as they have a slow release of energy, as most cycling is done over a long period of time. Training regimes - make them simple. Just start off saying you could do 15 miles 3 times a week, then increase that by 5 miles after 3 weeks, then another 5 miles after those 3 weeks. Make sure you talk about rest days, slow twitch muscles, stamina, muscle recovery times, etc. etc.
Maintenance - Im doubting you will have to cover this in PE - what would someone whos doing football or running write about?

and all that other stuff also i can write pretty much anything about bikes and stuff to do with cycling as a side thing

Not up to date with the current syllabus, but all subjects love to hear about things like why sexism/racism/global warming/unhealthy eating etc. is wrong. So just talk about cycling as being a great way of being healthy, and reducing global warming.

Or you could just ask your PE teacher..

Also, ever heard of punctuation? Full stops, commas and all those other marks which help people understand what you're trying to say.

Come on lad, you'll be taking your exams next year!
  • The plural of forum is fora.

There is no apostrophe in GCSEs.

Fora an irregular plural. Which is no longer in use. So forums is the correct term.

If you were speaking latin then yes fora would be used.

Come on guys lighten up, it's not that hard to read!!

But yeah do have a look on the other forums as there is loads of stuff already said. Especially on nutrition, mechanics and good/bad points about various. Use the search function. Or listen to RealMan who seems to be speaking some sense.
  • To be honest, i was kinda tired, i write this really late. I usually get As' in my English, or Bs', so it was a one-off, sorry! Thanks for the help and tips i'll get on my bike more, now the summer holidays are coming, so i can try some of this stuff you've posted and suggested, many thanks! :D

Actually we'll do rather well at running the country, as our era hasn't put the world into several recessions... and children nowerdays are much more caring about the enviroment than any 'current generation' are...
  • Hi Nathan,

I did GCSE PE and got an A*. I am now at 6th form. One of my four sports was mountain biking and I got 25/25 for it as I managed to persuade my teachers that because I raced and rode 3-5 times a week I deserved it :P

All I did was show them the results of my first race (Dusk 'til Dawn - 12 hours at night in Norfork) and they gave me the 25 (I presume this is the part of the course you are talking about?).

I hope this helped and feel free to ask me anything...

    Matt

Green people might argue that cyclists deserve a tax break because they aren't polluting the environment, but cyclists burn energy similarly to cars: their increased demand for food isn't great for the environment
