Assuming you're using flats, the standard pedals that comes with bikes are usually a bit plasticy. A lot of people have their own which they swap between bikes so it's normally a corner they cut.
Assuming you've got fairly normal sized feet the Welgo ones seem popular:

Fairly light, decent grippy platform, long lasting etc. The MG1 model is a lighter version of the same.
If you've been cursed with huge hooves like myself, the Superstar Nanos are a bit more generous on foot space.

Sweeping statement of the day coming up!!! :
The general consensus seems to be that the group who ride flats use DMR V8's as they seem to be the best flatties money can buy...
The clipless group, with myself included, use Shimano M520 spd's..... which at only £20 are fab, but remember you'll need to buy a pair of SPD compatible shoes to work them! whereas with the V8's you can ride with a normal shoe!
Enjoy!It's been a while...0 -
I'm going to completely disagree with graydawg:
4 groups of people with aftermarket (i not rubbish) pedals
1. Flat riders who don't know better, V8 or V12. Okay pedals but overpriced
2. Cunning flat riders, MG-1, lighter than v12 cost about the same, feel nicer underfoot IMO.
3. Clipless, I'd suggest the m540 over the m520 as the bearings/sealing is a bit better.
4. People with outsized feet, I'd recommend the CB mallets for the massive platform and easy clip in/out. Or the Nano's for flats.0 -

Hey - if everyone shared the same opinion the world would be a boring place! It's been a while...0 -
V8s go for £20.. can't see how they are overpriced...
it's all a matter of opinion... I've got size 11 wide feet and they work great.0 -

A lot of people do use V8s but they're not the best money can buy by a long way, they're just easily available and reasonably cheap, a nice safe choice. I don't think there's a "best" but the V8s are never going to be it. Lots of people use V12s, which are lighter but frankly far too expensive for what's a very ordinary pedal.
I'm another Wellgo MG-1 fan, I bought a set for my spare bike but they ended up on the Soul while the spare's now got my V8s. The MG-1s do almost everything better, simple as that, more reliable, much lighter, slightly grippier. Only possible disadvantage is that they're not massively strong, due to their construction and alloy, so not a choice for the habitual pedal-striker. They're just great, storming value, lighter than pedals costing twice as much... I'm thinking I might get the ti-axle set because I'm a tart.Uncompromising extremist0
