Hello there, looking for some advice regarding an upgrade to a fork on my Cannondale F6. It currently has a rockshox dart 2 with 100mm travel. I have approached Cannondale about installing forks with greater travel but they have noted that the travel is not the problem, but the actual extended length of the fork. This is quite hard to find out without buying a fork and fully extending it to see if it works on there little table and graph.

So help as follows :-

1. Anyone any experience of this type of situation.
2. Have been looking a Tora's and some note 85-130mm of adjustable travel. Does that mean I could buy this and just 'adjust' it so that it never went beyond 100mm i.e. turn the bar in so that it never stresses the frame by using the extra 30mm.
3. Anyone got any recommendations on forks in the 100mm range.
4. Anyone any opinions on air vs coil. I have been looking at some air systems but reviews suggest that coil is better (if heavier).

Any help offered would be appreciated as I am now totally lost in this.

What is your budget? There are lists available (some within these forums) of fork lengths.

    Budget???
Well I'm going from the almost basic Rockshox so was looking to maybe get to something like a second hand TORA or REBA. I guess something less than £200.00. MBUK recommneded the TORA as an upgrade on Dart in recent issues so that was my starting point. Mainly weekend rider about 20-25 miles in some rough terrain and some formed pathways, but nothing too serious. Dart has been good to date so don't think I need to be looking at ultra-high end stuff.

Have researched Manitou, Fox and Marzocchi but no idea as to quality etc or even which one of their forks would be good. Any recommendations would be good. If you can point me to length tables then more the better. Do you know the answer to my original question 2?

The answer to question 2 is yes you could run them at 100mm.

    Cheers for that.

Any opinions on the rest of the queries with regards to 'air vs coil' or recommendations for other manufacturers.
