  • If you are addind your bike to home insurance, then the ins company will normally require the frame number.

I did. On the Evans website. Keep meaning to register on the Genesis website. Just means there is a record somewhere of your frame number.

I would say its useful for insurance reasons and maybe peace of mind. But its a bit like Alpha Dots, great in theory but very rarely useful. Its not often your bike is recovered if stolen. I think a good receipt with a frame number is more useful to an insurance company and police. Mind sometimes i think you need a photo of you with your new bike and a copy of the days newspaper, dated... the way some companies act towards insuring a bike!
The bicycle is a curious vehicle. Its passenger is its engine.

You can register the serial number and photos at www.immobilise.com which is free and links to a police database.
