Coast to Coast advice for a roadie

Apologies if you have done this topic loads before, I have looked through the forum but would just like to check some ideas.

Going to ride the coast to coast in September. Would really like to do as much off road and remote stuff as possible, I get loads of time to ride on roads so would like to make the most of this chance.

Am i right in thinking that the Sustrans route is mainly backroad with a few off road bits, and the Wainwright route has more off road and is more remote

If that is right can anyone suggest the best guide for the Wainwright route.

Any other suggestions would be welcome, this bumpy stuff is all new to me :-)

Sustrans is the C2C and is on back roads and disused railways etc and runs from Workington to Sunderland.

The Coast to Coast(Wainwright) runs from St Bees Head to Robin Hoods Bay and actually goes over mountain passes etc off road and is a much more serious undertaking.The 1st day or do are really Hike-a-bike ans on day 1 especially navigation can be difficult in bad weather

Thanks for that. St Bees to Robin Hoods Bay does sound like more of an adventure. I'll get the book.

mbr did an artical on the cost to cost stbees to robinhoods bay a few years back,

i'm sure you get hold of a copy on back order im sure it was august or sept 07...
