Riding & Camping - Any good spots???

Hi all,
i am fairly new to the whole mountain biking scene and have just bought about a month ago a new Specialized Rockhopper Comp 09, which I have to say I am absolutely loving.
Me and a mate want to go off camping somewhere for the weekend and take our bikes with us and do some trails etc.
The thing is, I have no idea where is good and can accommodate a good days riding(prefer off-road) and with good camping (without tons of kids).
I live in Northampton, so the closer the better to start off with but can drive a distance. But for this time i think within 100 mile radius.
Any suggestions or recommendations would be highly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Cannock Chase has good off-road riding and should be within your distance range of 100 miles. FollowThe Dog (FTD) is a great trail but not very long. Have camped here as well so you should be able to find a suitable camp site.

But if you want to look elsewhere try the moredirt site for ideas.

That's what I needed to know aswell , is there any good sites near the bedfordshire area, my traveling distance is limited but depending on how equipped the camping area is can go above 100 miles0
