Lovely for me - 14 mph hot easterly to push me home, reallly looking forward to it! The wind seems to be getting stronger all day and the temperature continues to rise too, its got hotter every hour from 6AM until now, the heatwave is no respecter of "the hottest part of the day", clearly.

I love cycling in heat too, which I think puts me in the minority. Normally when we have easterlies, its colder than usual, so this is genuinely odd.

Yup - I'm West bound - I would say westward bound but that's a seriously kinky shop, so I won't.... damn I did. (cue Google searches... )

I may have to try for the top speed record tonight, and as I won't be leaving 'til 6:15 it will also mean light traffic so I may even be able to try for a personal best. I've never pushed it getting home just gone with the flow.... hmmmm.....

    That is continentality for you.....

East of us is continental Eurasia which is hot in summer and cold in winter. When the wind blows from the East in Summer - it is hot - in winter it is literally Baltic.

Westerlies are Atlantic and fairly constant in terms of being warmish and wet.
Fixed gear for wet weather / hairy roadie for posing in the sun.

    What would Thora Hurd do?

that's what I did last tuesday, it was only a 7mph tailwind but I was on a mission and knocked off 3:15 from my PB! (I was also on my road bike and not on my commuter though...) Then again I think it was 23, whereas it is 28 at the moment - don't think I'll be going for it tonight
  • Here on the East Coast I have to contend with an unholy fog this evening. I think I should have one of those warning bells. :(

Spare a thought for those of us who return home to the East. The combo of 26 degrees and headwind makes for a very sweaty rider by the time I get home. Still mustn't grumble, the sun is undeniably nice and think of the training points.
