Recommend me a compact camera?

That was on the simplest point and click do nothing setting. dare say you could get better results on fancy manual settings the camera has but I'd have to RTFM for that.

Hehe, true! Obviously night shots benefit from a stand and longer exposure, and ramping up the ISO to compensate gives you that grain, typical of a camera phone.

Taken with my TZ3, hand held on the night scene setting.



I was rather pished as well after a half bottle of malt whisky, couldn't work out if I was seeing things or the clouds were actually that unusual so out came the camera.

And flicking thru the manual i've never read before it says you can have +/- exposure values to deal with evening / night sky.

Yup, on the TZ3 it's on the menu control buttons to the right of the screen, think it's the top button for EV
