....nor any other mind u!
Went for my 1st look at Bedgebury today and was very impressed, tons of riders! i took my familywho were goin to have a nice picnic etc along with my boy and his mate as was told its great for families...god it was sooooooooooooooo hot in the early 80's and really humid.
First i took the kids on the family route, quite a climb for kiddies but they enjoyed, we passed the red route so took the kids back and off i went, the red route is 13km long so off i go, at 1st i was lovin it and thought my fitness levels were really holding up and the scott felt brill, then hal way through the heat really hit me and then realised the water bottle was back at the car!!! i started to struggle and felt slightly giddy with my stamina completly sapped, i id get back but felt ill, i was just too hot and felt exhausted (still do)
Fluids are essential in such conditions and i learned a lesson the hard way...THEN..
my key broke in the bike lock and i had to hacksaw it off in the heat....arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
A good but occasionally bad day

bONKED? explain SS please? I really didnt take it easily, went at race speed taking hills as fast as i could, bends, straights, downhills as quick as I could, at the end i struggled to cycle along a straight!

I loved it mate , my boy and his mater 8 and thy found it a bit hilly, and it was damn hotbud...but they enjoyed it thoroughly overall. I'd go back more prepped nxt time, was lovin the singletrack but ruined it with my daft speed/lack of water and snacks!

I rode at Bedge last weekend and really enjoyed it :D A few of the guy's i ride with go there a lot just because it's close and are always complaining about all the gravel they keep laying (as was i until last week after my first visit there over a year ago) in a vein effort to sort the underlying drainage problems, but i just took it as an extra challenge and towards the end could ride it normally if i just pretended it wasn't there! There is a great new section through the trees with burms and jumps/drops, but they have also smoothed over a lot of roots which were a good challenge before, especially one of the climbs which one of my mates couldn't clear without dabbing previously, but now can be done in your sleep! Will definitely be going back soon.

is that the wanda trail? i thought it was alright, that steep 270 degree turn at the beginning made me think twice the first time i done it!

  • I had my first visit to bedgebury last month, it was a great ride. I had to take it easy cos I wrecked my anke a couple of weeks before going and I had a mate who was getting on his bike for the first time in ages!
I had a great time and will be going back to rag it.

Note for jamesst- Camelbaks are a good idea for anyone riding hard along with haribo or another sugar snack....

Bonnking sucks, had it once in winter and never laft home without a pocket full of sugar again.

Road the Bedgebury trail around the same time as you James. Damn was it hot! Thankfully a large portion of the route is undercover of the trees or I would have melted.

Anyway, my friends and I had a good time blasting the red route and even slipped off towards the end for a quick play in the freeride section. The second freeride route is short but has some nice little jumps and quick berms.
  • did bedgebury a couple of weeks back, had brilliant but tried to do the freeride bit on an XC bike with SPDs and it frikking scared me.
the only think I would complain about is the lack of directions back to the car park as I got lost in the middle of a thunderstorm
I assume this is French petrol - be careful in reverse - the car will retreat rapidly at the least provocation.

I managed to do the first and second routes but there was no way I was going up on the high stuff clipped in  The jumps were good fun though.

  • I did the first and the second freeride routes fairly easily then stupidity came over me and I thought to myself "I can do this no problem ",got onto the high stuff and saw the only way down was the drop.chickend out
But the jumps where fun ( are they fairly new?)
