Here's my shortlist with each bike's defining features/characteristics:
'09 Specialized Allez Compact MSRP: $880, LBS: $799

http://www.specialized.com/us/en/bc/SBCBkModel.jsp?spid=39254
Shimano’s Sora Set
Carbon Fork
'06 Specialized Allez Comp MSRP:$1800, LBS:$1100!!

Specialized FACT monocoque carbon fork and steerer
Complete Shimano 150 set
Shimano 105 brakes
extra notes: no fitting as this LBS doesn't do any fitting on their bikes. The guy there also told me that the aluminum frames were much better than steel, because they absorb more of the road - I thought the opposite was true?
'09 Jamis Ventura Comp - MSRP: $875, LBS: $729

Shimano Tiagra rear & Sora front
Easton EA30 Road handlebar
Carbon fork
extra notes: this particular LBS, King's Bike Shop in Seal Beach is known to be the bike shop other mechanics go to when they're stumped. I was promised custom fitting for free, as well as complimentary tune-ups for as long as I have the bike.
also in the running: Steel Frame - different kind of bike, but might actually be better suited for my purpose of long distance commuting (city to city, avg. 40-50 miles).
'09 Jamis Satellite - MSRP: $950 LBS$???

Shimano Tiagra GS rear & Sora front
'09 Bianchi Volpe 105 - MSRP: $1100 LBS$1050

Shimano Deore Rear, Tiagra Front
Steel frame
Shimano Tiagra brakes
added note: this is the same LBS as the Jamis bikes in this post. Great LBS, very helpful - almost a deciding factor in itself. Actually got to ride this one, and was the smoothest out of all the bikes I've ridden so far
just from pricepoint+features, teh '06 Allez Compact looks like a steal - on paper at least. The ride difference was noticeable, mainly just in shifting (I'm starting to realize how bad Sora is now), but not sure if it's a difference worth $400-500. Yes, the '06 Spesh screams out SEX!!! and is the best looking of the bunch, but I'm actually a bit more enamored by the subtle and classy look of the steel frame bikes. My head is spinning from all these pro's and con's  which is why I need your help.
Which do you gentlemen suggest I go for? Feel free to add to the fire with other bike model suggestions if you feel it is necessary :aureola:
