I hope you're happy Mr Burns, spreading your perversion.

Right out of the blue I've fallen in love with a CX (Kona Jake to be precise), now the problem is how do I sell this £700+ purchase to my missuss. I could give it the "far more robust for commuting than the road bike" angle - as we all know Council gritting salt melts any bike under 25lb - TRUE, FACT, AS REVEALED TO MOSES. prob is I only came into contact with the new love whilst picking up repaired bits of the b*stard hybrid commuter that I've just spent out refurbing.

Buy it and take the beating, she'll forgive you in the long run.

You could try the "it'll be cheaper in the long run as it won't require so much repairing" line. That ALMOST worked for me

You'll have also to mention that CX riders make much better lovers as they aren't inclined to ogle other mens legs, shave them and talk about figure hugging lycra as much.

Someone on hear has "Its easier to seek forgiveness than permission" as their signature - think this just might be one of those occasions - good luck, the bruises will be gone in a couple of weeks :)

Oh by the way Kieran - I'm thinking of getting a Specialized Tricross Singlecross when our C2W scheme kicks in next month - think that will alienate everybody?

You could say that you've looked into a bit recently and that you've managed to pick up a bit of a bargain because it's not cyclo-cross season and there's a bit of a surplus atm as cross racers are upgrading during the off-season.

However, since she'll see right through that, selling the hybrid and replacing it with jewellery is the only way out of this hole. (You can always say that you refurbed it to sell it to get a higher price for jewellery, but that may be pushing it. :) )

    Look.

    It's simple.

A CX bike is THE ideal bike if you want a machine that will suit all occasions.

So you tell her that it will be offset by selling all the other bikes and keeping just the one.

    and then keep them all

I have got my "look what I've saved" strategy - I've recently presuaded Mrs Rally200 that by having a couple of spokes relaced I've cleverly saved £100+ on a new wheel set,and that by keeping to an 8 speed groupset on the commuter, that when I bought new chain & cassette recently I "saved" about £40 on the 9 speed I really want. Add this to the saving I got on my Allez Sport last year (ignoring the facct that I haven't actually paid for it yet). I'm about £350 in credit.

    Will this wash?

You eont know her of course, but imagine a slightly more intimidating Sybil Fawlty
