£52 million of the £111 million cycling budget for the 2009/10 financial year has been allocated for the bike hire scheme

Is this money well spent, spent on the right things?

Encouraging cycling is good, but I can't help feel the money could be used differently for better effect.

This will be a total disaster, a similar scheme was tried in Manchester for a short period, it vanished , never to be seen again.

They should be installing secure cycle parking and legislate that employers must provide facilities for cyclists instead of promoting this ill thought out publicity stunt.

I predict the London scheme will be pulled within 18months .
