What on earth does "the Cinderella of transport" mean?

Do our bikes turn into pumpkins at midnight?
Does anyone have SPD-compatible glass slippers?

She was treated like s*** and held back from fulfilling her full potential.

As a digression, we did 22 miles today, my 7-year-old, the wife and I, Woking to the playground in Windsor Great Park and back again.

Your 7-year-old did a 22mile bike ride!? That's impressive, I'm sure I was in my teens before I was doing that kind of distance...

He was noticeably slower at the end.

I'm sure he could do much further with a bit more practice, we bought our bikes earlier this month and have only been out a few times.

Didn't stop him from preferring to cycle to the lido after school today (13 miles round trip), rather than going with his mum (who was still tired from yesterday, and said I should never make her go so far again; I wouldn't mind but I had 20kg of baby + baby seat on the back of my bike) in the car. The return trip was noticeably faster, the heat on the outbound leg was pretty tough. We caught up with a bloke ahead on the road on the way out, but my son had to stop for water despite me instructing him to keep going until he'd caught him , and then there was a hot trudge up the hill and we never saw him again.

His reward was a large hunk of bbqed cow (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vB16Dbjz8oo) for dinner.

It helps that he used to walk to and from school (1 mile each way), and we quite often do walks around the North Downs and similar local spots (5-6 miles typically), so he has good stamina (if not that much speed, he's quite slim and slight).

It also helps that his bike weighs less than his previous 16" job. Well worth the cash: http://www.islabikes.co.uk/bike_pages/beinn24.html
