The catch?

Apparently It's illegal to post CO2 from mainland UK to NI.

So I must either buy from the local Halfords or the NI based Chain Reactions, the LBS is more of a camping store with a limited bike range.

I need something small enough to fit in a small saddle bag and suitable for Presta valves.

I haven't found any hand pumps that make it possible to get a tyre to over 100 PSI. my co2 pump can do it in a matter of seconds and easily fits in my jersey pockets. Convenience over cost IMO

Im getting more interested. It is hard enough to get 70PSI with my handpump on the one occasion I had to do it.

With the CO2 thingy - Is it a once only deal (1 refil per co2 canister) or does it last for a bit?

Just once for canister, I'm afraid. Mind you have to pump your tyre up with the track pump properly when you get home - the CO2 comes out faster than air, I'm told...

Wheezy, maybe you could order from mexico? If you can do euros that is. 8)

worth every penny imho. Buy the canisters over the internet they work out about 50p each, money well spent.

Hmmmm, well the CO2 you have from CRC, so maybe there's a work around.

The one I have is an 'Innovations Air Chuck', it seems well-made, all-metal which I figured was a good thing with the temperatures involved...

    BUT... I've never used it.

What am I getting at? Well, maybe one of the shops in the google linky could be persuaded to send it to you without the CO2, thereby staying on the good side of the law. Same applies for any variety...

Or, equally, if you like, I can buy the pump, post it to you and keep hold of the CO2...

    I have this one

    http://www.edinburghbicycle.com/ebwPNLq ... 146c003268

which worked very well when I've had to rely on it

I bought from there and they posted it to NI just fine by the way

Or if you can get to Belfast -

    http://www.bikedock.co.uk/ do the innovations range

    as do

Thank you for your contributions, especially L-i-T for your kind offer.

The Innovations air chuck was the pump I had originally ordered, based on the recommendation of one of the 'regulars', possibly G66

Thanks to Gustibus for the link to Bikedock, hadn't heard of that store before but will be ordering online ASAP. I don't have a working pump at present and it could be several weeks before I get up to Belfast. Also I have heard many bad reports about 'she who must not be named'.

Don't know how edinburghbicycle send C02 to Northern Ireland. It may be a customs/paperwork issue that wiggle don't want to get into rather than a legal issue.

Wiggle emailed when I placed the original order saying
We are restricted from sending CO2 cannisters outside if mainland UK so I have had to remove the pump from your order.

    Thanks again

  • Wheezy, I got a Leyzne co2 pump from Wiggle, originally they did the same thing and cancelled the order due to the NI factor, I emailed them and asked them to send without the cartridge which they did and i got cartridges from Bikedock.

I used it in anger about 4 weeks ago, excellent tool, beats all that pumping malarky, and the way it freezes all frosty like when you use it is pretty funky too.

I have the innovations one from Wiggle

Arrived sat morning and used it during the dartmoor classic on Sunday. Awesome, although junk the tyre levers as they broke removing the turbo tyre on my aero rims.

Airchuck SL rocks. Co2 is not a waste of time, fantastic on sportives or group rides when you're in hurry/don't want to keep folk waiting, and so much less faff than a handpump. Cartridges are cheap: http://www.tyreinflators.co.uk/co2-cartridges-16gm/mosa-16gm-threaded-co2-box-of-30/prod_256.html
