heavier rider - Alu or Carbon

Anyone have any thoughts about whether as a heavier rider (a beefy 16.5st) should stay away from carbon or not? I've had a few sobering lessons with mtb components recently (a saddle and some crank brothers pedals) that were clearly not suited to someone with a bit of extra beef and I was wondering if I should have the same consideration with a road bike and its components?
On the same topic does anyone have any thoughts about the orbea aqua? I know their orca frame's supposed to be amazing but on the basis I don't have 2.5k to blow on this i would appreciate your thoughts.
Thanks!

I was riding my first CR1 at 20 stone and its still used for geared oval racing now (5 years later). The key is make sure its a good carbon frame. You get good and bad frames in both materials and I would take a good quality alu frame over a shittily made carbon one. There is however no need to avoid a quality carbon product purely owing to a few extra pounds.
(im not that heavy anymore by the way!)0 -
