Mongoose Tyax Elite 2007 front brake

Hi guys! Long time no see, sorry about that!
I'm looking to upgrade my front disk brake, I feel that it doesn't have enough power to stop me fast, a little dangerous sometimes. The back has plenty enough power. The pads are quite worn but there is still lots of material left covering it completely, I have adjusted them so they are within ~0.2mm of the rotor which helps but still not quite enough power for my liking.
The only problem is the Mongoose has Shimano EF-50 brake/gear levers which are one piece, and I quite like them. It's a 160 mm rotor, mechanical disk brake.
I was thinking maybe if I could just change the actual caliper to a higher powered mechanical one? Using the existing cable. Or maybe it's just as simple as changing the pads around.
It's now only being used on road (at higher speeds) if that makes any difference.
Just looking for some advice really.
Thanks!

They are all the same power really - it comes ddown to good pads and a clean rotor (and smooth cables)0

If you want to put some new stuff on your bike, put BB7.
You'll probably gain a bit more power but a lot more adjustability, like tool free
pad adjustments on the inner pad and the outer, which is pretty good stuff.0 -
Hey guys!
Thanks for the replies.
Yes the BB7 brakes look great. I don't really have a issue with using tools to adjust the pads but I agree it'll be easier to adjust them!
So it'll have more power than my current stock callipers? I see you get a disk with them too, 160mm same size, wonder if it would be better or worse than the one I have on there currently.
Or am I just going overboard? Should I just get some new pads (maybe better than the stock ones) I couldn't seem to find any this style on Wiggle.
Thanks!Specialized Stumpjumper FSR Elite 2010
