I thought I'd start a thread to discuss all the national championship results, if people are interested.

Last Sunday saw Columbia - High Road take another win with Pinotti's TT win.

Today, Chavanel finished second to mountain biker Peraud in the French TT champs, a real surprise and you can see the look on Chavanel's face for yourself.

Is French road-racing so screwed that they can't even win their own championships?. I'll bet Guimard and Hinault are apoplectic.

Jeannie Longo won her 56th  national title in the TT. And when Jeannie wins something, can controversy ever be far away?

  • I guess Hinault was right when he said "The French earn too much money and don't make enough effort." How embarrassing for Chavanel and for French road cycling.

To be fair mountain biking is just a timetrial and plenty of mtbers have moved on to be big on the road scene, so not sure its that big a deal. Still French TTing is even worse than their road riding.

I know it was in January, but when Columbia's Rogers and Hansen were outfoxed by bike mechanic Peter McDonald for the Australian Championship, that was a shock.

What is the story with the GB TT title? Is there one or just the 10/25 titles? I remember there was some discussion by Bradley Wiggins before the London prologue about whether winning something would allow him to wear a jersey in the prologue? Can't remember what the race was now? Surely we are not the only country without a TT title...?

    Bernie S:

Long links force the window wider than the screen, so everyone has to scroll left and right to read all the posts in the topic.
When you post long links, can you put them in as named links like this: the BBC.
To do the, type the text "the BBC", highlight it, click the "/URL" button above the reply window,
and paste the url into the opening url tag, like this the BBC

Tomekke just won in Belgium, Gilbert second, a young kid called Godard third and Van Avarmaet fourth. Group of about 20 sprinting at the end.
  • Meh, Gilbert denied once again. How is Tommeke still riding?

The French race was a cracker - totally justified being run without radios. I can see those 2 stages in the Tour causing all sorts of problems.

Yauheni Hutarovich won the Belarus title. I loves me some Bielorussian cycling action!

So in the Tour de France we have these nice new jerseys to look out for:

    Italy - Pozzato
    Russia - Ivanov
    Switzerland - Cancellara
    Luxembourg - Schleck
    Norway - Arvesen
    Belarus - Hutarovich
    Ireland - Roche (possible)

    3 from Saxo Bank!

He beat Cunego for the U-16 title, just as he beat Cunego in the Elites on Sunday.

    In Spain:
    1. Rubén Plaza (Liberty) 4:49:55.
    2. Tino Zaballa (Paredes) a 3.
    3. Mikel Astarloza (Euskaltel-Euskadi) 7.
    4. Alejandro Valverde (Caisse d'Epargne) 16.
    5. Igor Antón (Euskaltel-Euskadi) 19.

Valverde again doing a very bad tactic.
If you like Flandes, Roubaix or Eroica, you would like GP Canal de Castilla, www.gpcanaldecastilla.com
