computer set up- dumb ass question

just a quick one..
i have bought a computer for my bike.
the set up instructions dont specify a distance that the monitor on the Forks should be from the hub.
It just says get it as close to the rim as possible then select your wheel size and that is it. Surely the distance from the inside of the wheel to the outside makes a difference to your speed & distance?

doesn't matter it just measures the number of times the magnet passes the sensor which will always be the same no matter how far away from the hub it is.0
