During the winter months I decided that my tyres (Fast Track LK) on my specialised Hard rock were quite frankly rubbish! I kept getting stuck in mud, and had little traction, so changed them for Panaracers Fire XC 1.8's and I have to say, they were miles faster lighter and really liked them in wet muddy conditions; However to my horror they are frankly dangerous in the summer! I have had two crashes due to losing grip at the front, (and bad riding) So I have changed back to the fast tracks and have found that they have really slowed my riding down, hills are harder, the bike feels heavier but I am not crashing! So the question I have is that I need some good summer tyres for XC that are light, fast,

I have Fire XCs on my bike, never once lost the front end when it wasnt my fault. What pressure are you running them at?
What sort of terrain are we talking?
Kanda Small Block 8 DTC are supposed to be good for dry conditions. Racing Ralph are good too, but rather expensive and have fairly thin sidewalls (something I found out 1st hand).
Of course, none of this will make a blind bit of difference if your tyre pressure is bad.0 -
Nobby Nics - light, fast, fragile, expensive
Racing Ralphs - lighter, faster, more fragile, expensive
Conti MKs Protec - bit heavier, fast, expensive
Conti MKs SSonic - light, fast, fragile, expensive
Maxxis HR - bit heavier, fast-ish, strong, inexpensive
Maxxis CrossMark - light-ish, fast in dry conditions, inexpensive

iv found maxxis ignitors to be very good. go for a bigger sise as well, they grip better over dry stuff, and add comfort. so combine the two and......drum role..... maxxis ignitor 2.3'sI like bikes and stuff0

erm I am about 83kgs and run my panaracers at around 50psi I find that they are 1.8 which I thought was great for cutting through mud, but I still have not figured out why you have loads of different sizes why do some people run 2.2 tyres and others 1.8 I thought it was a weather and conditions thing, I tend to ride xc so mixture of single track fire road grass0

50 PSI maybe too high, try dropping it down a bit. I run 30 PSI front and 35 PSI rear with my 2.25 Nobby NIcs. I wouldn't go for Raplhs, I used to love them but I've had 2 puncture related crashes recently so I've lost a bit of faith in them.0

Try a 2.1 fire Xc up front with the 1.8 rear.
I've been experimenting with my tyre pressures lately. I used to run 40psi, then dropped to 30psi though I found that too low and the bike felt very draggy. I'm on 35psi now and that feels much betterAdam.
