Am thinking about trying this race out for my first real foray into racing - has anyone done it? Would love to know what the course is like, etc. Would it be ok for an older beginner?

It's a Go Race event, so it'll almost certainly be ideal for a beginner - that's the idea of them! Seems to be getting good sized, but not massive fields. I don't know the course, but it looks very simple and easy (perhaps a little boring after you've got over the fun of simply racing, but that'll take quite a few races!!)

Go for it - age is no barrier, there's been lots of new people of all ages in the beginners races I've done, including pensioners.

Hmm - getting passed by pensioners would not do much for my already fragile ego...

But I guess there isn't any other option to just go out and do it! Am also looking at the Shaftesbury CC day at Hog Hill in late August - apparently the Go-Race event isn't the whole circuit so it doesn't include any hill.

Have ridden these for the last couple of years, rode my first one this year last night. The circuit is a basic loop with a short hill at one end, the track is banked in places but you don't need to ride on it.

It is a bit repetitive, but you tend to be concentrating on the wheel in front to much to notice. I was dropped halfway through last night but that was poor tactics on my part. Have found it a great introduction to racing and would definately say give it a go.

There tends to be a wide range of abilities, only way to really find out is to give it a go.

If you tried it last night then ignore all of the above, hope you did better than me!
  • I also did this - my report is the race report thread. Allezdoug - you must have donme better than me - I was the guy in red who got spat out pretty early on.

I debated taking part yesterday - but decided that I'd better make sure I can hold on to the wheel of the pacer on my Computrainer before actually trying it in real life. I am, however, thinking of doing the next race on the 16th...

...although after reading your reports maybe I need to put in a whole lot more training; sounds like it will be a quick dropfest for me at this stage.
