I'm looking at getting an older model/discounted full sus bike, my first, and ideally didn't want to spend more than £600 so had settled on this cos it seems like a good deal
Giant Yukon FX1 2009 - £560 down from £900
http://www.paulscycles.co.uk/products.p ... 1b4s1p1748
review: http://www.bikeradar.com/gear/article/g ... x-1-16365/
but then I saw this and now I don't know what to do!
Giant Trance 3 2008 - £685 down from £995
http://www.paulscycles.co.uk/products.p ... 1b4s1p1740
review: http://www.bikeradar.com/gear/category/ ... ce-3-12405
I understand the Trances are better specced and thought of a bit more highly, but is it worth the extra £120? Should I stretch to it? will there be much difference in weight? I've picked Giants cos I've had my current XTC for a few years and love it, but does anyone have any other recommendations of discounted/older FS bikes to look at?
Thanks

You know the Trance is only available in 16" (small).
If thats the right size for you go for it, has a better spec than the Yukon FX, as the Trance has the Maestro suspension system with the Fox Float Rear Shock.0 -
damn, i hadn't actually noticed that. i was after a medium, which is 17", so will the extra inch make much of a difference?0

Yes, it's not just the inch in frame size, it will have different top tube lengths meaning different reach etc etc.
If you can, try and get a test ride on one.0 -

it says on paulscycles and Giant's site that medium Yukon is 17" and large is 19"

my current giant hardtail is a medium, but it's a 19" frame. I went to my local shop on sunday but they didn't have one in to try for size, but the owner said i should get a medium for my height 5ft 10in. anyway, the trance is now ruled out if it's only a small!0 -
i've got a giant trace x 5, it's really good, in medium which is 18". I am 6ft and 14st, so it's perfect for me.0

Yep a medium sounds right, my brother is about 5'8" or so and has a medium Trance.
I was just going by Giant's website for sizes:
