Yes, that's right, it was both a BMW and a 4x4 and he showed great consideration when driving.
Who'd have thunk it?
Probably wasn't his car.0 -

Did you thank him?0 -
I do a cheery thumbs up for that sort of thing.
I once did a lazy wavy turned into a Papal benediction when I realised I was outside an RC church.0 -

My signal for changing lanes turns into a thumbs up if a driver holds back or slows to let me past a stopping bus, or just shows that they're not a pr*ck on the road. I hope it's appreciated, and they don't think I'm giving them the w*nker hand gesture!Bike/Train commuter: Brompton S2L - "Machete"
12mile each way commuter: '11 Boardman CX with guards and rack
For fun: '11 Wilier La Triestina
SS: '07 Kona Smoke with yellow bits0 -
On a similar note, on a narrow road this morning, cars parked either side, a woman in a blue BMW waited patiently behind me. When the road widened slightly I pulled left and waved her through, she smiled and waved thanks and I waved back. Everyone proceeded happily.
Maybe its the weather?0 -
BMW drivers are getting nicer, I know 3 really nice guys who drive Bee-Emms
Audis are now the car driven by c  cks, you heard it here first (well, on Top Gear actually)
It's just a hill. Get over it.0 -

the standard of BMW and [particularly] VOlvo driving improved drastically with the advent of the people carrier. :?
J.Reduce your carbon footprint - ride a metal bike!0 -
Probably learned a lesson from the last cyclist he annoyed.....still paying for the new headlights and the facial reconstruction surgery.0

your point is????
er, I assume that we shouldn't be that surprised by decently driven BMWs because a load of the bad drivers are now in people carriers???
Not sure that I agree that many BMW drivers moved to people carriers though....0 -

No, but this former Audi driver did

That is a strange one up here as most of the X5's I see are driven by the 'yummy mummys' and they are always on the phone
BTW UE, whats your commute route? I'm an East Lothianer myself0 -
Those Audi Q8 things are a warcrime. They are very nearly two lanes wide!0

I'm Longniddry to Leith, you? I only started a couple of months back, but I racked up my 500th mile last night.
I find the Yummy Mummies to be quite happy to follow behind me for a stretch, TBH. It's less usual for a bloke.0 -
The Commander currently has his usual Merc in for service at the moment and has an Audi on loan for the time being. Yesterday he became one of those cocks in an audi when he picked me up from work in Exeter and proceeded to shout at a cyclist who shot out in front of him.
It was a  moment when both of us realised it was all the fault of the car as he is normally a placid driver especially when in uniform (setting examples and such)
He also made an impression on a few of my work colleagues who were outside at the time!
So if you drive an Audi and act like a cock it's the cars fault...FACT!Officers don't run, it's undignified and panics the men0 -

That's a nice run. I assume you take the coast road all the way? I used to do Fountainbridge to Leith docks a few years back. Lovely downhill all the way in the morning, and not so lovely uphill all the way back in the afternoon. Is the seafield treatment plant still stinking? Not nice to have that catch the back of your throat after 10 miles
I'm just about to start Whitekirk to Gullane after a house move0 -

The drug dealer's vehicle of choice - must be black with blacked out everything. Although, based on what I saw a few days ago, about to be superceded by this..
but with black wheels, innit.Bike1

Yup, coastal all the way, unless I'm really struggling with a headwind on the way back, in which case I tend to go through Wallyford instead, so that I take my hill in the middle of the route instead of right at the end. As for Seafield? It all depends on what the locals had for dinner the night before I suspect
Whitekirk to Gullane should be a fantastic commute, with a good chance to mow down tourists in North Berwick0 -
And you can go to the Gullane Super Fry - how exciting!0
