unless you are lucky enough to have a very large head, the helmet will look like a mushroom

I've got a head like an inflated pumpkin and I look a total idiot in my lid, mind you it's a cheap spesh one-size-only job

It's just a hill. Get over it.

I've had to replace two cracked helmets in the last couple of years and my general approach is to buy whatever wiggle is discounting that dosnt look too horrid. My current one is a Giro Monza in silver and white. Comfortable and relatively tasteful and they are still doing it at 20% off = £56.

To be honest though, my last couple of helmets cost more like £30-35 (Giro indicator and a Bell something) and both were fine (in a pathetic display of conformity with roadie norms).

I went to Condor and the leading candidates are:

Giro Stylus (£60), Met Inferno (£90) and Catlike Kompact Pro (price uncertain but it's £68 on Wiggle). Thoughts?

my thought is that you should buy which ever you liked best - it's only a helmet, it's about they fit you and look on you and we can't help you much with those can we?

You should be able to get a Giro Atmos for about £90. Thats a good lid, if you liked the Giro. Its only Wednesday.

Of the three, the Met looks least like it would be hot. The other two look like fairly warm budget lids to me. I know you don't have hair, but I still think "hot", and not in a good way, when I look at them.

Haha! The Catlike has a handy insect net at the front, which I like, and is probably the most stylish. The Giro is the smallest, which is a plus, though it does perch somewhat. The Met is the most comfortable, and allso slightly lower at the sides which seems like a good idea. I'm leaning towards the latter purely for comfort reasons, but the Catlike is very seductive. Maybe a little large though.

Wiggle has the Inferno UL, which may be the 2009 version. I'm pretty sure Condor has the Inferno (no UL) so I'm concerned the UL may not share the excellent comfort.

Okay, I have taken the plunge and ordered the Inferno UL from Wiggle - it's TWENTY-SIX pounds less than at Condor. If it doesn't arrive by Friday lunchtime I'll go to Condor as a reserve.

Good decision. They all look carp and are sweaty and uncomfortable, so if you're going to wear one it might as well fit properly which will maximise the chance of it doing its job, although hopefully it will never be called upon.

I have the Met and can confirm that it is very cool (temperature wise).
It's pretty low profile and personally I think it looks pretty smart, certainly nicer looking than my peaked Giro Xen MTB lid.

Odd name for a helmet though, suggestive of extreme heat...
