Clipless pedals - why pay more?

I've had some cheapo Shimano M520 spd pedals for a few months after converting from flats, cost me about £18 inc cleats new on ebay. They have been fine, but starting to "creak " a bit, if you know what I mean. Other than maybe shaving off a bit of weight, what benefits would I see from a more expensive pedal? (other than losing the creak)
Also, which spd pedal would you recommend (I've only used shimano so thats why I ask about spd, not sure I want to try another type)?
Thing is, I like spending money on new bits, so I won't need too much reason, please!!

Got no problems with my M520's.... no creaking either - are you sure its not the threads that are needing greased up rather than the pedals??It's been a while...0

M520's do not creak. They're indestuctible!!!
Put your money way or send it to me.0 -
Mine started croaking like a box of very vocal frogs, so they do creak, actually.
I prefer spd/mtb shoes for walking in, so recently bought a pair of lovely Mavic Razor shoes and paired them with Look Quartz pedals for on my main road bike. I get all the advantages of spd with a larger platform, hence more comfortable and efficient power transfer. Adjustment free mechanism on the pedal, intelligent cleat design and options. Great styling, a graphite grey carbon look, with potential for red and whiite options. And abaout half the weight off of 520s! I have only done a few hundred miles but the pedals are very smooth and so far trouble free. I like them and if they outlast the season I will upgrade my other bikes....probably.0
