Chain Rubbing on Front Derailleur

First proper ride out tonight and I've found out that my chain rubs quite badly against the front derailleur when on the smallest ring at the rear and middle or largest ring at the front.

I know a small amount of chain rub is ok but this seems a little excessive. Is there anything I can do?

Cheers

And/or H stop winding out if above does not fix.

More cable tension: The tighter the cable (adjusted by turning the little knob where the it comes out of your shifter) the more the cage will be pulled outwards. Unless....

H stop winding out: The mech probably has 2 little screws on it that limit how far it can move inwards and outwards, marked L and H respectively. Could be that the H one is set so it can't move out far enough.

Don't make enormous adjustments, just a little quarter turn and see how you go.

When turning the H screw should I be loosening or tightening??

Thanks very much for your help. I'll have a go tonight.

Er, should be tightening (I think)- try it and see if it's worse or better! The Park site nicklouse linked to will confirm and is well worth a look.

well it depends on why you are turning it.

have you added tension? what did it change? if you want to move the mech out you need to allow the stop to move more.

if you look normally you can see the end of the screw and where it touches the stop. and unscrewing the screw moves it away from the stop allowing more mech movement.
