I have a new bike on the way but have any of you haggled over parts, say i don't need the entire groupset the tora forks the avid juicy 3's and the fox rp2, would the lbs be forthcoming in swapping said bits for other parts instead say an xtr front mech a lh xtr shifter and a thomson or similar seatpost?

Never done this before so id like experiences of your haggling skills. ;)
The trouble with having an open mind, of course, is that people will insist on coming along and trying to put things in it.

Depends on the LBS, you can but try (although probably better done before you order the bike).

More often than not they'll try to do something for you as its better then risking you being niffed that they woudln't help and finding somewhere else to spend you bike bit money :)

Speak to them about it before they build the bike up, eh?

as commandoboy says, it'll depend upon their circumstances; if they stock the items you want to swap out or are confident they can sell them quick then sure why not. But swap out, not cash back so you can order cheaper off the internet.....

A whole groupset and fork though, As the LBS, I'd be asking why you didn't order a frame ... oh, you wanted the deal as a whole bike? well, why swap out all the bits then?

They should be forthcoming if you want to upgrade individual bits, but it'll depend on the shop as to how far they'll accept you pushing it.

If riding an XC race bike is like touching the trail,
then riding a rigid singlespeed is like licking it
... or being punched by it, depending on the day

I just ordered a new commuter bike from my favourate LBS and decided to upgrade the pedals and handlebar grips. They 'bought back' the original parts and fitted the new ones free.

    Nice touch I thought.

May as well ask. your LBS should be keen to build a relationship with you and will be likly to offer something if you are a regular customer and/or make a big purchase.

mine changed 505 pedals for 520's and installed a HT2 chainset for free, even though I'd bought it from CRC.
