Frame or bike...

I'm updating my bike this year and going from a hardtail to full sus..
My quandry is about saving a bit more cash and buying a bottom end full bike from one of the ranges I'm thinking about, or just buying a frame and swapping everything over..
I'm rather hoping to end up with a reasonably light all mountain/trail bike... I've already got a dual air Revelation fork on the hardtail that I plan to move over for the sake of weight (I suspect if I buy a bottom end bike the fork will be heavy..).
Thinking about - commencal meta 5.5, Trance X, Fuel EX, Orange 5.. any other suggestions in that sort of area? I'd like it to be comfortable with 120-140 up front with 4/5" at the back..
Question is - are the frames in these (and other?) ranges pretty much the same all the way up? (excluding when they go scandium or carbon of course..) In essence - would I get the same frame buying the frame alone, as buying the worst full bike in the range and selling/keeping for spares the parts I don't need? The price difference seems pretty small most times..
Sorry if this is a stupid question!

personally i always just swap out the frame as it gives you more money to spend on it.
then you can adapt the odd bits and change the main bits ie: bottom bracket, headset and seat post.0 -
Quite often the base level model of bike is only a bit more than the frame.0

Yeah.. that's the point..
I think the answer is to decide which one I want, then figure it out from there..
As always - I need to go out and ride them
It's madness though.. for example -
the 09 Trance X frame I'm seeing retailing at £850-£1000
The 09 Trance X5 (ok - it's got a pants shock on it but still..) around the £900-£1000 point.. So - 300 extra for a better shock maybe?
Or for around £1200 there's the Trance X4 which has a decent parts spec all round..
Aaaagh! TOOOOOO MAAAANNNYYYYYYYY CCHHHHHOOOOOIIIIICCCCEEEEEESSS!0 -
Go for the full bike. Swap all the bits on that will fit that you want, and sell the rest that dont - will work out cheaper! Not all your HT bits will fit, so this way you know you will have a complete bike.
Plus you can test ridde what you want.0
