Abingdon area, Oxfordshire
Im currently working in the Abingdon area and was wondering if anyone local to the area knew of any good rides to make good use of the summer evenings?
It looks pretty flat here so I guess the majority of the riding will be bridleways and flat land?
If anyone out there knows of anything I would be grateful of a heads up.
Cheers,
Martin

I don't know much about the rides round Abingdon, but head a bit south towards Wantage and there's some more interesting stuff on and around the Ridgeway.
There's a track somewhere in Oxford.
Best thing to do is grab an OS map and look for bridleways and byways. My guide to navigating using the Garmin Edge 800

Be careful of the claggy clay if you're riding on the Ridgeway after any sort of rainfall. It's a nightmare to clean off.Trek Fuel EX8 090

A found another 6-7 miles today of empty trails in and around Ashampstead. Absolutely superb stuff with a cracking downhill section and good all-round stuff.
I can now ride for 4 hours and be on dirt 99% of the time
Techincally i could add 4 more to that without too much hassle, but that's not quite as nice as it's more Ridegeway than foresty stuff.Salsa Spearfish 29er

Further query on OP point really.
Work in Abingdon and live in Newbury and looking for some good routes anywhere in between.
Thinking of taking the bike to work in the back of the car, and stopping somewhere on the route home. Just don't really know of any routes in the area.FCN 70 -
Grab an OS map and look for trails coming off the Ridgeway. Loads of riding around East Ilsley etc.My guide to navigating using the Garmin Edge 800

Your spoilt for choice in between Newbury and Abingdon. Just North of Newbury you hundreds of bridleways and byways that lead up to the Ridge way. I've just been out there today, you barely have to set a tyre on a road. Check these OS maps OS158 Newbury Hungerford, and OS170 Abingdon, Didoct. You'll see what I mean you look at the map.
Abingdon in general is pretty flat and boring but head towards the East or West Hendre and Ridgeway and you'll be spoilt for choice.0 -

I'm up for some riding this weekend lads as the wife is away.
3-4 hours, mostly XC, couple of hills, couple of good sections of downhill etc. Sadly 2-3 sections of road, but good for recovery at end of hilly section lol.
Any day Sat/Sun/Mon is free for me currently...
Start is just South of Didcot. Parking and pub within 10mSalsa Spearfish 29er
