Hi had my bike for several months now.
Went out on it the other day and noticed one of the gears isnt catching properly.
It just seems to rattle alot and doesnt engage.
Its the second from top on the back cassette.
Any ideas? Do i need to take it into a shop for repairs?

sounds like cable tension.
have a read of the how to on parktools."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

Yeah, I'll go for cable tension as well firstly. Easily to do yourself, after all it looks like the indexing is buggered, you might as well try it.
Just as the gear wire touches the derailleur, there should be a screw, try turning that 1 quarter clockwise at a time either way (experiment). Always remember where it started though.
Another problem could be a slightly bent gear hanger....I know it took me 3 weeks to realise this at easter - Doh.CAAD9
