    I must not fear.
    Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
    I will face my fear.
I will permit it to pass over me and through me.
And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
Where the fear has gone there will be nothing.
    Only I will remain.

Read that somewhere. I have no fear*; there's always someone faster. Such is life

I am the old man on the steel tourer 8)

well, middle aged is more accurate  . I fear guys 10 years my senior who ride worn out old wrecks of what were nobby tyred mountainbikes that can manage 35 kph on the flat out section of my commute (10 kms round the docks in Antwerp)

Mostly this is because they've been riding this route every day for the last 30 years (lots of job4life round here)

That and the urban once-a-year cyclists who seem to come out of teh woodwork when the sun comes out (about now) and insist on mounting their bikes on roundabouts then wobbling all over the place and assuming all sorts of ROW that they don't have. These are the same people, I'm sure, who jump into their Lexi and X5s at the first drop of rain and then deny me any ROW whatsoever.
Everything in moderation ... except beer
Beer in moderation ... is a waste of beer

If riding an XC race bike is like touching the trail,
then riding a rigid singlespeed is like licking it
... or being punched by it, depending on the day
  • the student bunch

They ride in a group of about 10 in a big pack that stretches halfway across the lane and are prone to swift and sudden direction changes. Thankfully the university term is over here and they are not so prevalent at the moment, but they will be back...

Giant calved hairy blokes on MTBs with slicks, and a frame two sizes too small.

That's because they do not make bikes big enough for us !

22" was the biggest I could find, and it looks like a Brompton
