Crank Arm Issues

I recently managed to damage my left (non drive) crank arm enough that the pedal no longer screws in, and I need to replace it.
However, I am unsure on what to buy. My bike is a fairly cheap and cheerful Giant RIncon trail, and the left crank is 170mm with the numbers TX70/71 stuck on it.
Does the left crank have to be specific to the chainset? I would rather not replace the whole chainset, as it works fine :?
Would either of these work?

Thanks in advance

go to a proper bike shop and ash them about thread savers.
they will be able to fix the thread so you can use the current cranks."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

Thanks for that - went into one shop earlier and they quoted me £40 to replace the crank arm - no mention of a thread saver (what exactly is that anyway? :? )0

It is a helicoil thread. You tap your pedal out slightly oversize then screw in the helicoil which then leaves you with a new pedal thread.Neil
