Crank Arm Issues

I recently managed to damage my left (non drive) crank arm enough that the pedal no longer screws in, and I need to replace it.

However, I am unsure on what to buy. My bike is a fairly cheap and cheerful Giant RIncon trail, and the left crank is 170mm with the numbers TX70/71 stuck on it.

Does the left crank have to be specific to the chainset? I would rather not replace the whole chainset, as it works fine :?

Would either of these work?

Thanks in advance :)

go to a proper bike shop and ash them about thread savers.

they will be able to fix the thread so you can use the current cranks.

Thanks for that - went into one shop earlier and they quoted me £40 to replace the crank arm - no mention of a thread saver (what exactly is that anyway? :? )

It is a helicoil thread. You tap your pedal out slightly oversize then screw in the helicoil which then leaves you with a new pedal thread. 7103_4617_135144.jpg
