Went out Tuesday, did 125miles ideal conditions had a cafe stop 46miles in my actual ride time was seven hours.
I did the same route (more or less) 130miles weather was blustery with rain showers. Had no cafe stop only stopped for a "jimmy" and to purchase water. Actual ride time almost eight hours.
This to be honest shocked me, I never thought the difference would be so large.
I think the weather was the biggest factor, but, the cafe stop must have some impact as a rest and a few carbs can't do any harm to my riding.

Nice average speeds there for rides greater than 100 miles. Nice too that you have more than two super long rides in a week!
Your points on weather, caffine and rest sound like the reasons, although it wouldn't surprise me if you simply were slightly tired due to the ride earlier in the week. I don't know that many people that do two centuries in a week!Contador is the Greatest0 -
It probably sounds big, but when you look at it, it ain't that big really?
Say the wind slows you 5% ? That's 3 minutes per hour x7 hours = 21 minutes, same for the extra fuel on board another 21 minutes? = about 45ish minutes?
Not alot really, it seens just because you been in the saddle all day makes it look big, no?"I spend my petrol money on Bikes, Beer, Pizza, and Donuts "

Cheers "frenchfighter". I had a day off work to put the first ride in, and these are in preperation for my target ride of the year to ride to Sutton-on-sea and back in a day, which given the convoluted route will be between 180/200 miles. I may go out for a couple of short ride this week to keep my legs "loose" before the ride on Sunday.
But I was amazed at the difference in times. I just hope for favourable conditions 'cos having attempted the same ride last year in awful conditions (and failed, climbed off at Newark, puncture and cramp) a 1hour difference just suprised me and should the weather be sh1t next weekend I have reservations, but I will be setting off.Tail end Charlie

Just over 12.00hrs to the off, can't wait I've got my "snap" sorted out and had a very short ride to keep the legs loose. Got my spares and equipment all ready and had a blooming great bowl of pasta to eat. Just got to finalise part of the return route and get my clothing ready.
I've got at least three mates coming along and there could end up being as many as seven of us. The weather ain't looking too shabby either, bit hit and miss shower wise but the wind is a ENE 7mph.
BRING IT ON, YEEEHAAA!!!!!!!
Hope I'm still smiling tomorra night.Tail end Charlie

Did you do it on your own? Amazing if you did, I could never work up the mental strength to do 125 miles on my own, well I probably could but it'd be abit boring.0
-
Yes, I did 130miles last Saturday alone.
Last year, I attempted the ride I'm doing tommora alone (due to being let down the night before) and I climbed off with about 25miles remaining having completed about 170ish. Hence I've got the bit between my teeth now.Tail end Charlie

Well, what a day.
Mission accomplished, the bare stats are:-
Distance 186 miles
Ave speed 16.5 MPH
Actual riding time 11hrs 15mins
The weather was perfect, had the very pleasurable company of five top blokes had some laughs. For me the laugh of the day was when one of our number phoned his Mrs from the chippy at Sutton.
"hello duck, happy birthday" Still chuckling now.
Another laugh was when we stopped at a bar/cafe in Woodhall Spa and a Michael Jackson video was on the tv and I said "You don't hear much of him lately, do you"
"He died on Thursday" said the barmaid.
"You're joking I didn't know that"
"Where have you been?" she enquired
"I've been on holiday with Osama Bin Laden"
On the cycling front the whole event, thankfully was incident free it was great. Had a super day, Gods cycling.Tail end Charlie
