Easton Alloy Nipples - Anyone any trouble?
One of my alloy nipples on my Easton EA90 Aero wheels broke while I was climbing up toward Malham Tarn last week.
Bloke at bike shop, who replaced it with a brass one implied alloy nipples weren't worth the weight saving as they are so fragile.
Anyone else have bother with their nipples (no chafing comments!)? Wheels only have about 1000 miles on them. One off or genuine worry?

Alu nipples will definetly not be as strong as brass. For some riders alu is strong enough but if you are having breakage problems not related to poorly installed nips or badly designed wheels then go for the brass. I prefer the brass because of the reliability and much less likely to get stripped or rounded off from re-truing.0

Alloy nipples are fine if you don't use your wheels in the wet or winter - I build some Open Pros with DT Revs and alloy nipples in the winter and after a few months was forced to replace the nipples following some bad corrosion.Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..0

I built some wheels with DT rims and DT alloy nipples. Worked well for a couple of years but now the nipples are starting to snap at the head. They are sitting in the shed until I find time to re-lace with brass.
Also the alloy nipples seem to bond to the rim hole eventually making truing difficult.0 -
