As the title says, What route did you choose and also where did you stay. Im thinking about doing the C2C and have bought the map and guide book. Its about 138miles so thats 46miles per day over 3 days if split evenly. Can the route easily be split evenly ? If not what would you recommed as the distance for each leg. I think i will do Whitehaven - Tynemouth. Im very familiar with last 25miles or so ie Stanley to Tynemouth or Sundrland.

I`m riding C2C this Wed 24 June and will be doing the Workington to Tynemouth route. As we have a couple of newbies riding with us we are splitting it into 3 easy runs. 1st stop is at Greystoke, just outside of Penrith, then 2nd stop is at Alleheads.

    It`s a state of mind.

We are stopping at the village pubs-surprise,surprise- the Boot& Shoe at Greystoke and the Allenheads Inn, both do B&B. Will let you know what they are like at weekend.

Thanks very much. Also how much planning have you put into this - how long from deciding to do it to actually doing it ?

I think it was about 2 month ago i was asked if i wanted to go, its a lad i work with who arranged everything. As soon as he knew the number going he was straight on the phone arranging digs, thing is , as the better weather is coming- hopefully- you will have to get booked in somewhere as i have no doubt they will be taken pretty quickly.
Biggest headache was getting the bikes over to Workington, but again, the organiser has mates who live over there and who are doing the ride with us, so he`s taking the bikes across on Monday to be kept there ready for us on Wednesday. And his dad has offered to take us across, so everything sorted.

    It`s a state of mind.

Not actually sure, its just kind of at the "thinking about it" stage. I would say it will be the all road route at the moment.

I've done it three times, once in three days, once in two, and once in one. I'd recommend two days with an overnight stop in Alston, almost exactly half-way, a couple of miles off the route but plenty of half-decent pubs that do B&B.

If you want to take three days - which means you're probably only on the bike for 4 - 5 hours per day - I'd stop at Penrith, where there are loads of B&Bs, and Allenheads. The Allenheads Inn is great and does great food but is booked up way ahead, so you need to plan.

Wouldn`t advise doing it on a road bike. Mtb or even a hybrid would be ok. Some of the off road sections are a no go for a road bike.
The Boot & Shoe at Greystoke and the Allenheads Inn are both excellent stop overs.

We did whitehaven to tynemouth with a few route variations mainly because my wife is a Geordie and won't stray to far south of the tyne. We took 5 nights as we had the kids with us though they could have probably done it in three, it was the parents who were flagging. We stayed in a various sorts of accommodation, b&bs and Keswick and Once Brewed Youth Hostels. Great trip, hope to repeat soon.
