Converting full-suss to hardtail?

Is it as simple as replacing the suspension unit with a solid member (oo-err!)?

I think my hill climbing is suffering due to my spongy rear end. As it were.

    You could do that.

What is the frame and the shock?

there used to be something 10 years ago but not really a good idea.

IIRC you have the green and orange Raleigh Max Lite FS1?

I would be poping into the LBS and asking then about some/any new/old hardtail frames that you maybe able to buy off them cheap (scratched etc...) and see about getting the brother and others to get the bits swapped over.

yes you might need a new seatpost/clamp and front mech but i would be ditching the old FS1 as soon as i could.

That is a plan, I've got my eye on a Rockhopper Disc but I still need to keep riding in the mean time. It's got to the point where the Raleigh is holding me back instead of being fun.

Can't grumble, it was free after all and it did get me into cycling... 8)

in that case get the gears sorted and fight on as i would no spend a penny on the FS1 (other than to keep it running until the hopper arrives).

yes it may feel it is holding you back but when you do swap the harsd work will have paid off.

I'll second that; dump it for a decent hardtail as soon as is practicable. And then marvel at how you fly up them hills!

Although, I marshalled a race at Lee Quarry a few weeks back and there was a guy flying around on a horrific Barracuda, which I think is a similar monstrosity...
