Doing up an old bike, so far about the only thing I haven't replaced is the wheels!

I hadn't intended to replace them, unbeknowst to me the wheels as an 8-speed wouldn't suit the 9-speed Tiagra setup I was going for, so now I'm looking to replace that as well with something that will take a 9-speed cassette or even a 10-speed (for compatability with my other bike)

Can anyone recommend something good? Don't want to blow my money on something crap but hadn't been looking to replace both wheels, though if a good wheelset was worth it over a single I'd consider doing so and keep the front as a spare.

a 9spd cassette should go on a 8spd wheel, or is there another reason why it won't work?

09 Aksium must be a good bet for a 8/9/10spd wheel

I've had to replace my Aksium rear wheel on my training bike and been less than impressed with them, spokes going and free hub packing in and would not buy them again, I went for a Shimano Rs20 and it is holding up well

Cassette wouldn't fit without my taking out one of the gears, makes it an 8-speed and I'm worried that if I don't get the setup exactly right I'll over shift and have the changer go into the spokes, that is how it is at present.

If this is the extent of the knowledge then I would spend a little more and take it to your LBS and have them set it up.
If you get it wrong it will cost you dearly in the long run.
If you have a Decathlon near you they sell Aksiums for £129 a pair.
