Indeed, shoddy planning relying on the last 30 seconds of Q1 to start a flying lap, not sure what happened in the first half of Q1 though as I was out so if something happened to prevent a flying lap then i retract my comment :D

Do you think having his GF (one of the pussycat dolls) at trackside is affecting him this season? or is the car just pants and gripless?

Mclaren and Ferrari are deffo paying the price for the championship battle last season. Eyes must have been taken off the development of this years cars.

Maybe Hamiltons car development skills are not too brilliant either?

Yeah, they could have used the testing time up during last season trying to find an advantage.

Then again, BMW started development of this years car and the Kers system very early on, much to Kubicas chagrin, and they aren't doing brilliantly!

I know they say that Brawn GP are simply reaping the benefits of massive Honda investment, but how gutted must Honda be now

Yeah I bet they are really pi$$ed off :D

But I don't think the team would have been as successful as they are now if Honda was still in charge.
Huge multinational companies are not really suited to running an F1 team imho.
There are too man 'big-wigs' involved in decision making, too slow to react etc
Smaller dedicated teams with a key genius/enthusiast running them function much better.

Honda even sacked their technical director a few seasons back, because his ideas conflicted with a japanese technical director who had no experience of F1...

Even Mclaren and Ferrari are struggling to react quickly enough these days.

Hamilton is not a naturally quick driver.Through his growing up years in carting, his dad used to stand at the point he was to brake at for the corners to teach him later braking.
And i think he's living his Dad's dreams.

So what you are saying is that Lewis would really not be wanting to race with the fastest cars on the planet, be living a higher than Hollywood life style and be getting jiggy with a pussy cat doll in his spare time and is in fact doing it all for his Dad ?

Yes yes, I completely see your point

Claiming he is not a naturally quick driver seems a bit off. He cartainly has the speed to mix it with the best of them, providing his car is good enough.
He's not actually that far off the pace of the front runners, it's just that the differences in lap times these days are so small that any negative factor can lose a race.

I didn't know about his dad standing at the braking point, but even if he did, that just seems like a great way to teach some commitment.
Several karting tracks I've been to use overhead spotlights to highlight braking points, which works pretty well. I'm not sure if they use these during championship races or not, but several (if not most) race tracks have corner distance markers, or at least some landmarks trackside that can be used to judge the distance.

Theres a difference between a natural fast talented driver and quick drivers.
A natural driver will have a gift for speed and reactions for racing ,a gift which he has been born with and can not be improved upon with learning. Whereas a driver of good ability can be taught to drive quicker by learning driving techniques such as late breaking and coordination, etc.
Naturally gifted drivers have been ; Jim Clark probarbly the best naturally talented driver of all time up with Ayrton Senna.
Graham Hill and Nigel Mansell these guys who won at many levels in different types of car racing. Indy car,F1,Touring cars.
Mika Hackkinen knew when the going was good and got out of the circus.

Great drivers through practice ; Michael Schumacer a allround driver as good at team work as driving made him multi world champion.
Jenson Button years of F1 racing and maturity has helped him along to the front row.
David Coulthard good driver in the race but could not put down a good qualifying lap. This is not natural ability.

What im saying about Lewis' Dad is that he wanted to be a race driver so hes put great pressure on his son to be what he wanted. Now yes hes got a great life style though he seems over anxious to say that (to please the parent) . But many stars have succomb to bad things through parent pressure and failures in their careers.

Is pressure at a young age a good thing?
    Is competition a good thing?
Money and glory dont stop you being miserable.

The documentary footage I've seen from Hamilton as a kid seemed to show that to a large extent (ie when it came to racing matters), Hamilton Snr was very much Lewis' underling.

Still even, if Snr was pushy - blimey he's pushed his son into driving a car for a living. Not bad I reckon.:D

Here is the complete list of kids currently not interesting in being a racing driver:

You only need two tools: WD40 and Duck Tape.
If it doesn't move and should, use the WD40.
If it shouldn't move and does, use the tape.

shuey made some pretty good comments on TG the other night about this.....

seems mr brawn gets results for every team he is involved in....

benetton were winning when he was there.
    then ferrarri
    now brawn...

shuey said that it is not all about the car....sure you need a fast car, but if you can squeeze every efficiency out of every process and every member of the team, then that is where the success comes....

Hamilton has been plagued with stupid team communication rrors....i mean...running out of fuel...come off it....in F1 surely someone gets sacked for that.
