Hi,
Due to various reasons, I may have to sell my pride and joy, but how do I know the value of it, without risking the auction of ebay.
It is a Look 555, with Dura ace groupset, K sword bars and seatpost, and Mavic ES wheels, with keo sprint pedals, look carbon bottle cages.
Any ideas on what would be a fair price to both parties.
Thanks

Factors to consider are size - market for a 48cm and 62cm are less than a 56cm and will affect the price. If it's in good nick, then between 2/3 and 3/4 and what you paid. It depends on what model DuraAce groupset too. Sadly, top-end bike depreciate more than mid-range. You may get more by selling it in individual parts tooMake mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..0

thanks Monty Dog,
It's size 54" so pretty popular size, in pristine condition, cleaned after every ride and not had many at that hence the justification to keep it in tough times. The Dura Ace is 10speed 7800. Full retail price for the frame and parts is approx £2800 at time of purchase.0 -
To be honest, i'm afraid between 2/3 and 3/4 is over egging it - think you'll get around 50% of its new cost0

You have to take into account what the current prices of some items are - for example, depending on which year/colour the frame is, you can normally get them online brand new for 40% off normal retail price. Last year I almost bought a blue/white 555 frame and forks (previous years model I think, but it was stunning) - J E James were selling it for £650, I think list was £1,300ish.Carlsberg don't make cycle clothing, but if they did it would probably still not be as good as Assos0 -
The rule of thumb is about half what you paid for it. You will get more if you split it and sell the parts individually, although this requires additional effort on your part.
I sold a complete bike once and took a chance on setting a low starting price and no reserve with a view to stimulating interest. A few people bid but the guy who won it definitely got a bargain. Since then I've split bikes I've sold and have always been happy with the final amount.0 -
I would split it.
The one thing you have in your favor is how much Shimano parts have gone up, even Ebay prices for Shimano have risen.
You could even end up getting what you paid for the groupset as they have almost doubled in price.
It does take a little more effort but wont take that long to do.0
